1. Introduction & Objectives

Coral reefs are highly productive, diverse and attractive ecosystems producing a wide range of valuable goods and services with considerable economic value. In addition to their economic importance, coral reefs play essential roles in maintaining food-webs and biochemical balance in the marine and coastal environment. They are also very important to the livelihood and cultural identity of millions of people living in coastal communities.

Objective: The objective of the Coral Reefs Working Group is to provide a platform for researchers and practitioners to exchange information and discuss ideas and experiences on Assessment of Ecosystem Services provided by Coral Reef ecosystems and make the information available to a wider community of users.
