Postdoc Opportunities – Counting Nature’s Contributions to People Across Canada

January 13, 2022 by Matthew Mitchell Categories: News, Vacancies

Come join our cluster of 2-3 postdocs working together in a multi-university-NGO collaboration to map nature’s contributions to people in Canada! Canada has ambitious conservation goals but national-scale data and the methods to model ecosystem services (ES) that are necessary for monitoring change and prioritizing actions and locations for conservation are largely lacking. Our team of postdocs will work collaboratively with NSERC ResNet, the Nature Conservancy of Canada, multiple universities, and government agencies to explore data and develop models and methods to monitor changes in ES and natural capital at multiple spatial and temporal scales across Canada.

We are currently advertising two postdoctoral positions, and likely looking to add a third shortly:

  • Improving current national ES layers and expanding ES data and maps for Canada
  • Monitoring and managing ES across spatial scales.

Postdoc: Future forest use, biodiversity & climate

December 21, 2021 by Iskra Categories: News, Vacancies

SLU Swedish Species Information Centre are recruiting a postdoc who will optimize future forestry and conservation for sustainable and multifunctional use of the forest biomass. You will optimize forestry, conservation and wood use to reach objectives on future revenue, biodiversity, ecosystem services and climate. Available are tools/models to simulate future forestry, species distribution and richness, ecosystem services, and climate, the latter based on Life Cycle Assessment (LCA). The ARIES team is adding a new position to expand the scope of models and accounts included in ARIES for SEEA: Postdoc in natural capital accounting.
The team is also hiring for new positions in machine learning, semantics, and will also post two new software developer positions here in early December.

Post-doc vacancy at University of Granada

November 23, 2021 by Iskra Categories: News, Vacancies

The University of Granada, Spain seeks a post-doctoral research associate for a newly funded, LifeWatch ERIC Research project “Thematic Center on Mountain Ecosystem & Remote sensing, Deep learning-AI e-Services University of Granada-Sierra Nevada”.

Centered in the Mountain region of Andalucia (Southern Spain), this exciting and interdisciplinary project brings together conservation biologists, ecologists, local peoples, social scientists, land managers, and IT engineers to co-design incorporate all existing sources of information (including scientific outputs and technical data) on biodiversity and global change in Sierra Nevada, through a long-term physical and virtual European e-infrastructure for research and monitoring that allows to optimize adaptive conservation and ecosystems service supply of mountain ecosystems.
