IPBES: Announcement call to Members and Observers

IPBES has extended the nomination period for members of the review panel to perform the external review of IPBES. The network also announced a call for nominations for a member of the Committee on Conflict of Interest from the Western Europe and Others Group (WEOG). Call for nominations for members of the Multidisciplinary Expert Panel (MEP) is still ongoing. Deadlines for these three calls is 2 February 2018.

Landscape Europe PhD Course, 14-15 June 2018.

ESMERALDA workshop in Plovdiv, Bulgaria.

Towards testing and implementing ESMERALDA’s flexible methodology

For nearly two and a half years to date, the Horizon2020-funded EU project ESMERALDA has been working hard towards the development of a flexible methodology in support of pan-European and regional Mapping and Assessment of Ecosystem Services (MAES).

From 2 to 5 October, in Plovdiv, Bulgaria, the ESMERALDA project met with key stakeholders from the EU member states, the European Commission and Science-Policy-Society Advisory Board members to present a final version of its ecosystem services mapping and assessment methodology, and collect feedback and ideas for improvements and implementation. Common International Classification of Ecosystem Services (CICES) V5.1 now available

The Common International Classification of Ecosystem Services (CICES) developed from the work on environmental accounting undertaken by the European Environment Agency (EEA). It supports their contribution to the revision of the System of Environmental-Economic Accounting (SEEA) which is currently being led by the United Nations Statistical Division (UNSD).

Version 5.1 is now available and can be downloaded from the CICES website: www.cices.eu. It now replaces Version 4.3 which was published in 2013.

New WRI Report: Roots of Prosperity

The World Resources Institute (WRI)  launched a report titled “Roots of Prosperity: The Economics and Finance of Restoring Land”, on 19th December, 2017 at the Global Landscapes Forum; by Felipe Calderón (former President of Mexico), Naoko Ishii (CEO of GEF) and Andrew Steer (CEO of WRI).
