Transformative Changes for Biodiversity and Health

Alternet conference in Ghent, Belgium, 14-17 June 2022

Where and why do the benefits of biodiversity for ecological and human health arise and how can they be achieved? How and where can transformative change enable these benefits, including ensuring justice and equity?  How can human-nature health solutions be developed? How can the adoption of these transformative biodiversity and human health solutions by society and communities be achieved, for example by transforming food systems?

The Alternet 2022 conference aims to address these questions by focusing on what interdisciplinary biodiversity research can contribute to the transformative change agenda in biodiversity and health. [Read more…] about Transformative Changes for Biodiversity and Health

Call for Expression of Interest: membership of the advisory board for “Scenarios for Integrated Land Use Planning”

ELD is partnering with WOCAT, UNCCD, GEO-LDN and FAO in the preparation of the workshop series “Scenarios for Integrated Land Use Planning” (S4ILUP) – for more information, please take a look at this trailer.

To lay the foundation for a workshop design which most adequately addresses current gaps and needs for actors in the land use planning field across the globe, an Advisory Board (See attached ToR) shall be established.

Following the workshop series (end 2022), a global network of land use planning experts will be maintained and moderated for at least 4 more years, supporting exchange in this field that is high on political agendas. Restoration Project Information Sharing Framework

March 23, 2022 by Categories: News, Publications, Upcoming events

In 2021 the Society for Ecological Restoration (SER) and Climate Focus, on behalf of the Global Restoration Observatory (GRO) network co-led a collaborative effort to formalize a sector-wide Restoration Project Information Sharing Framework. The Framework is designed to support more coordinated global tracking of progress and trends in ecosystem restoration. Through the use of shared variables, the Framework will facilitate the coordination and sharing of project information to support global restoration monitoring while also improving restoration practice.

On 29 March 2o22 a virtual session will take place that will introduce the Restoration Project Information Sharing Framework and explore how to adopt relevant and appropriate content from the Framework for individual monitoring protocols, reporting systems, databases, and platforms. Register here.

Webinar: Piloting Natural Capital Accounts for the United States

The National Ecosystem Services Partnership (NESP) held a webinar on 11 March 2022 on the topic ‘Piloting Natural Capital Accounts for the United States’. In this webinar you can hear Ken Bagstad (USGS), Scott Wentland (BEA), Mehdi Heris (Hunter College), and Katie Warnell (Duke University) discuss pilot natural capital accounts for land, water, ecosystems, and urban ecosystem services developed for the United States, which were described in a recent special issue of Ecosystem Services. This was the first of two NESP webinars on natural capital accounting; the second will focus on next steps for using natural capital accounting in decision-making.
