NESP October Webinar: Global Earth-Economy Modeling: Linking GTAP and InVEST to address sustainability challenges

September 28, 2021 by Categories: News, Upcoming events

In this National Ecosystem Services Partnership (NESP) webinar, Justin Johnson (University of Minnesota) will present recent work completed with the World Bank that lays out a new model, GTAP-InVEST, that links a computable general equilibrium model from the Global Trade Analysis Project (GTAP) with an ecosystem services model, Integrated Valuation of Ecosystem Services and Tradeoffs (InVEST), to assess important sustainability challenges. Modeling the interaction between nature’s services and the global economy to 2030, this talk will discuss a range of policy scenarios available to reduce the impact of nature’s loss on economies. OOC Fundamentals of Freshwater Health

September 28, 2021 by Categories: Collaboration calls, News, Upcoming events

Conservation International (CI) and IHE Delft are pleased to announce a new open online course introducing the fundamentals of freshwater ecosystems, their ecosystem services, pressures they face, indicators to assess their health and governance and management approaches to protect and restore them.

Don’t miss this opportunity to learn from an expert team of professionals through interactive lectures, readings, and practical exercises. You’ll also become familiar with CI’s Freshwater Health Index, a framework for water managers and decision-makers to analyze the health of their basins, understand the trade-offs and consequences of their actions, and discuss approaches to creating healthy, sustainable watersheds into the future. Use the Ecosystem Services Valuation Database to assess the monetary value of nature anywhere on earth

What ecosystem services does nature provide? What is the monetary value of these services? How to compare different values? The Ecosystem Services Valuation Database, ESVD, gives the answers. Via ESVD.net you can gain free access to over 4500 standardized values in dollar per hectare per year providing information on all ecosystem services all over the world. Sign-up for the official online launch of the ESVD on 14 October to learn more about the ESVD. Webinar 16 September 2021 HOW TO INCENTIVISE NATURE-BASED SOLUTIONS?

September 14, 2021 by Jan Staes Categories: News, Upcoming events

PROGRAMME 16 SEPTEMBER 2021

Within the Interreg 2 Seas project PROWATER we use nature and its ecosystems to tackle the environmental challenges that climate change presents, such as regular and prolonged drought and flood periods. This approach to climate adaptation is known as Ecosystem-based Adaptation (EbA). While a lot of these measures need to be taken on private land, there is a lack of incentives and instruments to facilitate their implementation. EbA measures also have the potential to deliver many other ecosystem services beside climate adaptation. We consider Payment for Ecosystem Services (PES) as a viable option to provide such incentives at a larger scale. We have explored PES examples and identified their strengths and weaknesses.
