YESS Delegation Adds Youth Voices to IPBES Plenary in Bonn

September 27, 2023 by Iskra Categories: News

In August, a delegation of 22 young scientists and environmental advocates (half online, half on-site) from the YESS network participated in the tenth plenary of the Intergovernmental Science-Policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES) to take part in the global conversation on biodiversity and ecosystem protection.

The IPBES Plenary attracted scientists, experts and policymakers from across the globe to address pressing issues related to biodiversity and with a special focus on the recently-launched alien invasive species assessment. For the fifth year in a row, the YESS network, under the umbrella of ESP, sent passionate young representatives from various corners of the world to ensure that the concerns of young generations are heard and questions of intergenerational justice are considered in the discussions at IPBES. Webinar: Traditional knowledge for financial stability

July 20, 2023 by Iskra Categories: News, Upcoming events

Sustainable Finance for Biodiversity (SF4B) will hold a webinar on traditional knowledge for financial stability, with guest speaker Kamaljit Sangha – Associate Professor in Ecological Economics at Charles Darwin University and long standing ESP member. The event will take place 24 August 2023, 16h (CET), 9h (COL), 11h (São Paulo); with interpretation in Spanish, Portuguese and English.

Description
Millennia-old traditional knowledge has proven to align with planetary boundaries and enable stability. These inspiring practices offer sustainable ways to address biodiversity loss and the climate change crisis, bringing together indigenous , local communities’ and investors’ interests. Nevertheless, mainstreamed sustainable finance discourses continue to place their hopes on Western science-based information, often navigating political compromises.
