YESS Delegation Adds Youth Voices to IPBES Plenary in Bonn
In August, a delegation of 22 young scientists and environmental advocates (half online, half on-site) from the YESS network participated in the tenth plenary of the Intergovernmental Science-Policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES) to take part in the global conversation on biodiversity and ecosystem protection.
The IPBES Plenary attracted scientists, experts and policymakers from across the globe to address pressing issues related to biodiversity and with a special focus on the recently-launched alien invasive species assessment. For the fifth year in a row, the YESS network, under the umbrella of ESP, sent passionate young representatives from various corners of the world to ensure that the concerns of young generations are heard and questions of intergenerational justice are considered in the discussions at IPBES. Once more, the Ecosystem Services Partnership (ESP) network attended the 10th plenary session of the Intergovernmental Science-Policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES) in Bonn. This meeting held substantial importance in the global environmental community, as it brought together recognized experts, scientists and policymakers to address the pressing issues of biodiversity and ecosystem services, to accept the recently published Alien Invasive Species Assessment and to pave the road forward for the rolling work program within IPBES up to 2030. New UNESCO manual for assessing ecosystem services in African Biosphere Reserves
The CEBioS Programme (Capacities for Biodiversity and Sustainable Development), in cooperation with UNESCO, published the EVAMAB – Guidance for the Assessment of Ecosystem Services in African Biosphere Reserves.
The EVAMAB-project addressed the evaluation of the economic value of ecosystem services (ES) in UNESCO-MAB sites from a regional perspective (Africa) and focused on sites from 4 countries: Benin, Ethiopia, Tanzania, Uganda. Value Commission Public Consultation Launch
The Value Commission is a three-year collaborative project hosted by Capitals Coalition, which brings together Commissioners from around the world to drive transparency and accountability across the application and use of value factors.
The Commission is launching a public consultation for the co-design and development of transparent global criteria for the creation and use of value factors and consolidating existing efforts into an open-access platform.
