Survey of the relationships between costs, precision, and impacts of Ecosystem Services Valuation (ESV) Studies

June 23, 2020 by Iskra Categories: Collaboration calls, News

Participate in this survey to help create a roadmap to help policy makers to balance their available resources and required level of precision to achieve maximum impact from ESV studies. To do this, a database is being created of existing studies that includes their approximate cost, precision, and impact. Authors of ESV studies can answer a questionnaire to help flesh out this database.

If you are the author of an ESV study, we are hoping that you will take the time to answer a few questions about your study. [Read more…] about Survey of the relationships between costs, precision, and impacts of Ecosystem Services Valuation (ESV) Studies

Call for Contributions: Special Issue in Environmental Management

May 20, 2020 by ESP secretariat Categories: Collaboration calls, News, Publications

The lead team of the ESP Sectoral Working Group 5 on ES in Water Management (SWG 5) invites high quality contributions from researchers and scholars from around the world for a Special Issue in Environmental Management (Springer) titled: Incorporating Ecosystem Services into Water Resource Management—Tools, Policies, and Promising Pathways. This special issue calls for papers on recent multi- and interdisciplinary efforts to measure, plan for, incentivize, and implement projects aimed at enhancing water-related ES in basins around the world. Help us update the Ecosystem Services Valuation Database (ESVD)

April 22, 2020 by Iskra Categories: Collaboration calls, News

To make better informed decisions about trade-offs involved in land use change, or any activity affecting ecosystems and biodiversity, we need better information about the full importance of ecosystems to our wellbeing. In addition to intrinsic/ethical and other non-monetary values, economic considerations still dominate cost-benefit analysis.

To provide information on the economic benefits of ecosystems and biodiversity, and on the costs of their loss, a database was developed for the TEEB study, published in 2010.

We are now updating this database which now contains over 600 studies and more than 4000 value records distributed across all biomes, services and geographic regions (3x as much as the original TEEB database). We are currently setting up a review-process to double-check the current data, and welcome new studies for our repository.

Are you interested in developing the ESVD? Find more information on how you can contribute in the full invitation letter:
