The Intergovernmental Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Service (IPBES) is a science-policy interface established to provide a robust evidence base, together with the necessary tools and local capacity, to help decision makers around the world identifying solutions to pressures on global ecosystems and loss of biodiversity; thereby securing long term human wellbeing and sustainable development.

IPBES call for experts: Second Order Drafts and Summary for Policymakers Expert Reviewers for Thematic Assessment on Land Degradation and Restoration and the four Regional Assessments on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services

This requires a multi-disciplinary approach and, as such, experts are needed from a number of disciplines: natural science, social science, economics, data and modeling and traditional knowledge. The importance of thorough review by leading global experts, is invaluable to ensuring that the work of IPBES is credible, relevant and legitimate. The calls are open to citizens globally.

Consultation on Second Order Draft (SODs) and Summary for Policy Makers
The SODs and Summaries for Policy Makers of the Regional Assessments of Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services for Africa, Asia-Pacific and Europe and Central Asia and the Thematic Assessment of Land Degradation and Restoration will be released for consultation from 1 May 2017 – 26 June 2017. 
The Americas Assessment consultation period will be 29 May – 24 July. For more information see the notification from the IPBES Secretariat here.

IPBES encourages experts to contribute to the reviews by sending their responses directly to the Secretariat. If experts believe their comments would be useful for developing the UK’s official response please also send comments to the UK IPBES stakeholder hub at JNCC as they will be working directly with Defra on the response.
 
Please note that accessing the draft documents from IPBES has previously required reviewers to apply to access the documents. To prevent delays in accessing the documents, IPBES would encourage reviewers to create an account on the IPBES website before the consultation period begins.
 
The Global Assessment of Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services FOD consultation is due to commence in June for 8 weeks and experts will be sought to review and provide comment on the assessment. The assessment assesses status and trends with regard to biodiversity and ecosystem services, the impact of biodiversity and ecosystem services on human well-being and the effectiveness of responses, including the Strategic Plan and its Aichi Biodiversity Targets. It is anticipated that this deliverable will contribute to the process for the evaluation and renewal of the Strategic Plan for Biodiversity and its Aichi Biodiversity Targets.
