First participatory workshop on the NatGuidES project – Identification, assessment and mapping of ecosystem services in valuable nature conservation areas in Slovenia

March 23, 2022 by Iskra Categories: News, Publications

As part of the NatGuidES project a participatory workshop on mapping ecosystem services was held in Slovenia on 8 March 2022.

The main aim of the NatGuidES project is to establish a protocol for the identification and mapping of ES in valuable nature conservation areas in Slovenia. Consistent with the main project objective, the project team wishes to show that ecosystem services are more abundant and diverse in valuable conservation areas than in other areas. ESP statement on the current conflict in Ukraine

March 10, 2022 by Iskra Categories: News

The Ecosystem Services Partnership (ESP) is a global network of scientists, policy makers and practitioners on all continents that are collaborating in a peaceful manner for a better future of our environment and people. Now, as we are faced with a rapid development of unbelievable violence following the invasion of Russian troops on the Ukrainian territory, we are reminded again that armed conflicts cause a tremendous impact on so many lives worldwide. Our compassion is with the high number of people taken out of their normal life, injured or killed. Warfare is bringing terrible affliction to people, with long-term and far-reaching consequences. Warfare is also destroying biodiversity, ecosystems and our natural capital, which jeopardises ESP’s mission to further enhance the application of ecosystem services for nature conservation, ecosystem restoration and sustainable management. Therefore, ESP is calling its members and all people for peaceful and constructive solutions of conflicts and to promote sustainable interactions of humans and nature.

Improving water retention capacities of local governments in Hungary

March 9, 2022 by Veronika Kiss Categories: News

EcosystemEvaluation carries out economic impact assessment as well as ecosystem serrvices analysis of  theLIFE LOGOS 4 WATER project. This project aims to improve water management practices of Hungarian local governments with natural water retention solutions, thus reducing the negative water balance, increasing the prevalence of water retention solutions and adapting to the adverse effects of a climate crisis. In addition to a number of awareness-raising and capacity-building activities, the project aims to demonstrate the effectiveness of natural water retention solutions in two river basin districts through the coordinated work of the municipalities in the concerned areas.
