Workshop on Integrated Assessment of Forest Ecosystem Services, Values and Trade-Offs

January 27, 2022 by Iskra Categories: News, Upcoming events

The Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zurich (ETHZ) and the Forest Division of the Federal Office for the Environment (FOEN) are organizing, in cooperation with the Ecosystem Services Partnership (ESP), a workshop on forest ecosystem services at ETHZ on 5 and 6 May 2022. The event is aimed at forestry professionals and others working on forestry issues, as well as researchers and students.

Registration is free and will open 7 February. More information can be found on this page.

As the number of participants is limited, a waiting list will be kept if necessary. The deadline for registration is 6 April 2022.

Two post-doc positions: land-based, climate change mitigation modelling for the European forest sector

January 27, 2022 by Iskra Categories: News, Vacancies

Karlsruhe Institute of Technology seeks two postdoctoral researchers in the field of land-based, climate change mitigation modelling for the forest sector in Europe. The positions will contribute to the European Commission funded (Horizon Europe) ForestPaths project, held within the Land Use & Climate Change Research Group and the Global Land Ecosystem Modelling Group of the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT), located at KIT’s attractive ‘Campus Alpin’ in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Germany. Project leader Biodiversity and Natural Capital, RIVM (Dutch language required)

January 27, 2022 by Ton de Nijs Categories: News, Vacancies

National Institute for Public Health and the Environment (RIVM), the Netherlands
(Dutch below)

Are you a project leader and do you want to contribute to improving our biodiversity and nature? Do you have the skills to effectively lead various research projects? Then apply and make sure that this team of scientists can properly communicate its knowledge about our “natural capital” to Dutch policymakers.

At RIVM, more than 2,200 colleagues work together every day on a healthy and sustainable living environment for man and ecosystems. Within the Center for Sustainability, Environment and Health (DMG), five enthusiastic colleagues from the Environmental Effects and Ecosystems department work on research in the field of biodiversity and natural resources. Postdoc Opportunities – Counting Nature’s Contributions to People Across Canada

January 13, 2022 by Matthew Mitchell Categories: News, Vacancies

Come join our cluster of 2-3 postdocs working together in a multi-university-NGO collaboration to map nature’s contributions to people in Canada! Canada has ambitious conservation goals but national-scale data and the methods to model ecosystem services (ES) that are necessary for monitoring change and prioritizing actions and locations for conservation are largely lacking. Our team of postdocs will work collaboratively with NSERC ResNet, the Nature Conservancy of Canada, multiple universities, and government agencies to explore data and develop models and methods to monitor changes in ES and natural capital at multiple spatial and temporal scales across Canada.

We are currently advertising two postdoctoral positions, and likely looking to add a third shortly:

  • Improving current national ES layers and expanding ES data and maps for Canada
  • Monitoring and managing ES across spatial scales.
