Launching Summary for Policy Makers of the 1st Brazilian Assessment on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services

Biodiversity is not a problem, it’s a solution!

This is the main message of the First Brazilian Assessment on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services, which reveals why conservation and sustainable use of the country’s environmental assets should be central, transversal and strategic elements – not apendices or obstacles – in the socioeconomic development of Brazil.

Launched on the 8th of November 2018, and signed by more than 100 scientists, the document is the most complete survey on the theme ever carried out in Brazil.

ESMERALDA MAES Explorer helps EU member states map and assess ecosystems and their services

The recently introduced online resource – the ESMERALDA MAES Explorer – aids decision-makers from policy, science and society to implement Mapping and Assessment of Ecosystems and their Services (MAES) at different levels. MAES can reach from national policy to local spatial planning or businesses, who want to support sustainable resource use and understand the condition of ecosystems, their ability to provide services and the socio-cultural and economic values related to them. Looking back at ESP Asia 2018 Conference

2018 ESP Asia Conference has been successfully held at Wildlife Institute of India (WII) in Dehradun, India on 9-12 October. We would like to give thanks to everyone who kept the interest and attended the conference.

The opening comprised of the special ritual that shows the Indian culture. The conference had around 100 participants from 12 countries and 14 thematic sessions took place. For the first time at ESP conference, the ESP Asia Intergovernmental Meeting took place in the 2018 ESP Asia Conference. The delegates from 6 Asian Countries such as ROK, DPRK, Nepal, Vietnam, Philippines, and India came together to share the current trend in ES policy and implementation case study in each country.
