Webinar 16 September 2021 HOW TO INCENTIVISE NATURE-BASED SOLUTIONS?

September 14, 2021 by Jan Staes Categories: News, Upcoming events

PROGRAMME 16 SEPTEMBER 2021

Within the Interreg 2 Seas project PROWATER we use nature and its ecosystems to tackle the environmental challenges that climate change presents, such as regular and prolonged drought and flood periods. This approach to climate adaptation is known as Ecosystem-based Adaptation (EbA). While a lot of these measures need to be taken on private land, there is a lack of incentives and instruments to facilitate their implementation. EbA measures also have the potential to deliver many other ecosystem services beside climate adaptation. We consider Payment for Ecosystem Services (PES) as a viable option to provide such incentives at a larger scale. We have explored PES examples and identified their strengths and weaknesses. ESP Poland NN co-organises ECOSERV 2020/2021

July 27, 2021 by Iskra Categories: News

ECOSERV 2020/2021 – 6th Scientific Symposium ‘Ecosystem services in transdisciplinary approach’ – took place on July 7-9 in Poznań, Poland. The Symposium was organized by the ESP Poland National Network and Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań, this time as part of the 3rd World Conference of the Society for Urban Ecology. We were glad that the conference was attended by over 300 participants representing 36 countries from 6 continents. In participants’ opinion, we had three very rewarding days, filled with inspiring plenary keynotes, high level of thematic sessions with interesting presentations. Survey on new ES classification

June 29, 2021 by Iskra Categories: Collaboration calls, News

As a part of PhD research at University of Mohaghegh Ardabili, Iran, feedback on a new ecosystem services classification is needed.

The research topic is “Ecosystem Services in Lake Urmia basin: a new classification”. The main purpose of this research is to introduce a new classification of ecosystem services based on the humanistic perspective.

Your feedback on this survey will help the authors in the classification design. The survey will only take about 10 minutes to complete.

Please read and fill in the survey in the attached file. You can submit the filled in survey by email, at [email protected].

Two webinars on ecosystem services in the context of the US

June 29, 2021 by Iskra Categories: News, Upcoming events

Two webinars were held by the National Ecosystem Services Partnership (NESP – United States) in May and June, on ES valuation and on forest-based ES. Read more below and follow the links to watch the recordings.

Different methods, different values: How the choice of ecosystem service valuation method can affect cost-benefit analysis and prioritization decisions. Hear a presentation that synthesizes the results of over a decade of ecosystem services valuation work in the U.S. state of Minnesota and compares and contrasts results from “traditional” non-market approaches (stated preference surveys, hedonic analyses, avoided cost approaches, and travel cost models) with “alternative” valuation methods based on ecosystem service metrics, surveys, semi-structured interviews, and Q sort assessments. Read more.

Payment for forest-based ecosystem services from private lands in the United States. Hear a presentation on an effort to account, estimate, and document the full extent of direct payments for ecosystem services to private forest landowners in the United States. Read more.
