Biodiversity Action Plans: a way to integrate biodiversity management into your company

March 18, 2021 by ESP secretariat Categories: News, Upcoming events

The Union for Ethical Biotrade (UEBT) is part of the We Value Nature 10-Day Challenge,  an action-oriented 10-day event, running from 11-24 March 2021,  that will offer a series of practical sessions to help businesses take the next steps on their nature journey.

As part of the challenge, UEBT is organising a 90-minute workshop together with GNF and GIZ on how you can use the ‘Biodiversity Action Plan’ approach to take action on the ground and in your supply chains to increase positive impacts on biodiversity, including how to begin to contribute to regenerative practices that replenish natural systems. UN adopts landmark framework to integrate natural capital in economic reporting

March 17, 2021 by Iskra Categories: News

In a move that may reshape decision and policy-making towards sustainable development, the United Nations adopted a new framework today that includes the contributions of nature when measuring economic prosperity and human well-being.

The new framework — the System of Environmental-Economic Accounting—Ecosystem Accounting (SEEA EA) — was adopted by the UN Statistical Commission and marks a major step forward that goes beyond the commonly used statistic of gross domestic product (GDP) that has dominated economic reporting since the end of World War II. This measure would ensure that natural capital—forests, wetlands and other ecosystems—are recognized in economic reporting. Taking Stock of Global Capacity for Ecosystem Restoration

March 15, 2021 by ESP secretariat Categories: Collaboration calls, News

The UN Decade on Ecosystem Restoration is launching a global online survey to identify what and whose capacities need to be enhanced to achieve the goals of the Decade. This survey was jointly developed by a coalition of 38 organizations, under FAO’s leadership.

The survey will provide a baseline in terms of existing system-wide capacities; help identify strengths, gaps, needs and barriers to achieving restoration at scale and guide the UN Decade’s system-wide capacity development efforts, to the benefit of all involved.
