Worldwide network to enhance the science, policy and practice of ecosystem services for conservation and sustainable development
ESP connects over 3000 ecosystem services scientists, policy makers and practitioners who work together in more than 40 Working Groups and a growing number of National Networks on all continents. ESP regularly organises World and Regional conferences and provides many Services to further enhance the application of ecosystem services for nature conservation, ecosystem restoration and sustainable management. The Advanced Course on Ecosystems Services, Nature and Governance: concepts, tools and applications will take place at IB-S, University of Minho, Campus Gualtar, Braga, on May 6-10, 2019.
In this advanced course, the concepts of ecosystem functions and services will be explored, together with the tools for mapping and modelling, valuation approaches, financing mechanisms and inclusion of ecosystem services into decision making and corporate strategy. The Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) will run an international Summer School on the topic of land use and ecosystem change during at the KITCampus Alpin, IMK-IFU (Garmisch-Partenkirchen), from 20-27 August 2019. Master and doctoral students are invited to learn about and discuss a wide range of issues related to ecosystem functioning, socio-ecological systems and land use change.
