Call for papers: Assessing cultural ecosystem services through crowdsourced data from social media

June 23, 2020 by Iskra Categories: Collaboration calls, News

The special issue in Ecosystem Services will (1) explore  conceptual frameworks for using social media data in the assessment of ecosystem services; (2) highlight the current methodological research frontiers and demonstrate state-of-the-art approaches, (3) tackle data related biases; and (4) discuss ethical and procedural standards for crowdsourced data use. TWG10: Tips and tricks to combine multiple methods to assess ES and their trade-offs

June 23, 2020 by Iskra Categories: Blog posts, Member post, News

Ecosystems or landscapes provide multiple ecosystems services. Sometimes the simultaneous delivery of several desired/demanded ES is not possible, strongly inhibit each other, or initiate conflict: we talk about “ES trade-offs”. On the other hand, the delivery of some ecosystem services enhance the delivery of other ecosystem services: in that case, we talk about “synergies”. A trade-off can potentially result in a conflict between users, depending on who bears the burden and who benefits from the ES supply (TEEB, 2010; Turkelboom et al., 2017).  [Read more…] about TWG10: Tips and tricks to combine multiple methods to assess ES and their trade-offs

Survey of the relationships between costs, precision, and impacts of Ecosystem Services Valuation (ESV) Studies

June 23, 2020 by Iskra Categories: Collaboration calls, News

Participate in this survey to help create a roadmap to help policy makers to balance their available resources and required level of precision to achieve maximum impact from ESV studies. To do this, a database is being created of existing studies that includes their approximate cost, precision, and impact. Authors of ESV studies can answer a questionnaire to help flesh out this database.

If you are the author of an ESV study, we are hoping that you will take the time to answer a few questions about your study. [Read more…] about Survey of the relationships between costs, precision, and impacts of Ecosystem Services Valuation (ESV) Studies

The Role of Green Infrastructure for Sustainable Water Management in a Circular Economy

June 23, 2020 by Iskra Categories: News

Dr Nidhi Nagabhatla, co-lead of SWG 5, co-convened Session 5: The Role of Green Infrastructure for Sustainable Water Management in a Circular Economy  (4 June 2020 at the Dresden Nexus Conference organised by UNU FLORES, Germany ). Close to 100 people attended the session that illustrated concepts and cases of green infrastructure for water management, showcased technical and governance criteria that should be considered during the implementation of Sustainable Urban Drainage Systems.
