It’s about time: Advancing spatial analyses of ecosystem services and their application

June 18, 2020 by ESP secretariat Categories: News, Publications

In October 2019 the Ecosystem Services Partnership (ESP) held its 10th World Conference in Hannover, Germany. An event attended by around 800 participants, quite a difference from the first ESP meeting in 2008, when a small group of ecosystem services experts gathered. This tenth ESP anniversary was good moment to take stock of what the international ecosystem services community has achieved during these years. The author of this commentary has made many, and written a lot about, ecosystem service maps.

The author of this commentary, Louise Willemen, has worked on ecosystem services and rural development issues since 2003. [Read more…] about It’s about time: Advancing spatial analyses of ecosystem services and their application

NESP Webinar: Piloting Ecosystem Accounts for the Southeastern U.S.

May 20, 2020 by ESP secretariat Categories: News, Upcoming events

The National Ecosystem Services Partnership (NESP) will host a webinar on Piloting Ecosystem Accounts for the Southeastern U.S., on Thursday, 21 May 2020, 2pm-3pm Eastern Time.

Hear from Ken Bagstad (USGS), Katie Warnell (Duke University), Charles Rhodes (TBD Economics), and Marc Russell (US EPA) about a new publication that details the first effort to develop Ecosystem Accounts for the U.S. at a broad scale. The team will describe the potential for U.S. ecosystem accounting and explain their pilot accounts for a 10-state region in the Southeast. The pilot accounts address air quality, water quality, biodiversity, carbon storage, recreation, and pollination for selected years from 2001 to 2015. Call for Contributions: Special Issue in Environmental Management

May 20, 2020 by ESP secretariat Categories: Collaboration calls, News, Publications

The lead team of the ESP Sectoral Working Group 5 on ES in Water Management (SWG 5) invites high quality contributions from researchers and scholars from around the world for a Special Issue in Environmental Management (Springer) titled: Incorporating Ecosystem Services into Water Resource Management—Tools, Policies, and Promising Pathways. This special issue calls for papers on recent multi- and interdisciplinary efforts to measure, plan for, incentivize, and implement projects aimed at enhancing water-related ES in basins around the world.
