South-East Europe regional session O2 at the 4th ESP conference

ESP South-East Europe Regional Chapter and its leads, Stoyan Nedkov and Jeroen Arends supported by Hristina Prodanova and Vanya Stoycheva organized a regional session at the 4th ESP Europe Regional conference that took place in Heraklion, Greece from 10 to 14 October 2022.

The session O2 – “Biodiversity and ecosystem services in South-East Europe: Research challenges and application issues towards a community of practice” included participants from several countries (Bulgaria, North Macedonia and Turkey) and affiliations (academic, private sector, and students). The outcomes of the session include an idea to prepare a proposal for cross-walking and improving ecosystem mapping and ecosystem services; the development of a community of practice towards the exchange of knowledge and capacity building; interrelationships between different aspects of ecosystems mapping. Ecosystem Accounting virtual event – call for abstracts

Abstract sbmission extended for an exciting upcoming workshop on EO for Ecosystem Accounting hosted by the European Space Agency in collaboration with the United Nations Statistics Division and GEO EO4EA. The workshop will take place November 28 – December 1, 2022. (Please find the website event page, details, and registration information here.

This workshop will bring together experts in Earth Observation and experts in Ecosystem Accounting to jointly discuss the key challenges that need to be addressed in order to use Earth Observation in compiling national ecosystem accounts to support national policies. Conference: Nature-based solutions for improvement of water quality and river basin management

The LIFE GoodWater IP project is organising an international conference on “Nature-based solutions for improvement of water quality and river basin management” to be held on 26-27 October 2022 in Riga, Latvia. The conference will aim to present the role of nature-based solutions and ecosystem services approaches in improving the ecological quality of water bodies, as well as to share experiences and lessons learned in applying these measures in rural areas.

New EU project SELINA launched: Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services experts from 31 countries met in Hannover

Leading experts on ES science, ecosystem accounting, business- and policy-related decision making and on science-policy-business interfaces from related actions (OpenNESS, ESMERALDA, MAIA, MAES, ESP, IPBES, BD Partnership) met in Hannover from September 14-17, 2022, to mark the official launch of the EU Horizon Project SELINA and begin working towards their ambitious goals of implementing ES-related scientific outcomes in evidence-based decision-making.

Coordinated by Leibniz University Hannover and Prof. Dr. Benjamin Burkhard, SELINA (Science for Evidence-based and sustainabLe decisIons about NAtural capital) is an EU-funded project that aims to reshape decision-making processes within the public and private sectors by improving the uptake of Biodiversity, Ecosystem Conditions, and Ecosystem Services information.
