Online survey: Essential Variables describing the functioning of social-ecological systems

E&SEFT Project: “Ecosystem & Socio-Ecosystem Functional Types: integrating biophysical and social functions to characterize and map the ecosystems of the Anthropocene”. Please, feel free to click on the link to know about project goals, scientists involved, and other partners.

The E&SEFT Project is led by the University of Granada (Spain) and aims to develop a new approach for characterizing and mapping social-ecological systems using functional characteristics and attributes.

Firstly, the project aims to identify the key processes that define the functioning of social-ecological systems, both from the ecological and social dimension. To do so, they are working on creating a list of the Essential Social-Ecological Functional Variables (ESEFVs). Invitation to fifth session of IPBES Plenary

The Intergovernmental Science-Policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES) invites its member states and observers to the fifth session of the IPBES Plenary, which will take place from 6 to 10 March 2017, in Bonn, Germany. On Monday, 6 March, regional consultations and the stakeholder day will be held. The opening of the fifth session of the IPBES Plenary will take place on Tuesday, 7 March, at 10 am. Nature lends a hand

Helping nature to help us: that is the main idea behind the first European conference on ecosystem services. Between 19 and 23 September, more than 500 participants from all over the world will make their way to the University of Antwerp to debate and learn more about how nature contributes to human well-being and vice versa.

External review of the IPBES draft scoping report of the thematic assessment of the sustainable use of biodiversity

In decision IPBES-4/1, the Plenary requested the Multidisciplinary Expert Panel, in consultation with the Bureau, to undertake a further scoping of the thematic assessment of the sustainable use of biodiversity initiated pursuant to decision IPBES-3/1, by: 1) organizing a workshop of experts to produce a revised draft, 2) organizing an open review of this draft, and 3) preparing a revised scoping report for consideration by the Plenary at its fifth session.
