Ecosystem and ecosystem services accounts: time for applications

February 16, 2021 by Iskra Categories: News, Publications

A new publication of JRC “Ecosystem and ecosystem services accounts: time for applications” presents the proceedings of Session T17 during the Ecosystem Services Partnership World Conference in Hannover, Germany in 2019. Eight cases are summarized in the report; applications of ecosystem accounts in Europe, Canada, Czech Republic, Germany, Uganda, Bulgaria, Andalusia-Spain and Oslo-Norway. Most of these applications are in line with the System of Integrated Environmental and Economic Accounts (SEEA) framework and the outcomes are regarded as pilot attempts concluding in interesting messages that should be accounted for in next development steps. Mapping Europe’s institutional landscape for forest ecosystem service provision, innovations and governance

February 16, 2021 by ESP secretariat Categories: News, Publications, Uncategorized

ESP members Eeva Primmer, Davide Geneletti, Lasse Loft and others published the paper Mapping Europe’s institutional landscape for forest ecosystem service provision, innovations and governance. The article highlights how mapping and assessing ecosystem services (ES) have been used to support governance. It shows the importance of the institutional landscape that governs ES provision across multiple contexts. A framework is developed and operationalized for the analysis of policy documents that address European forest ES provision. An analysis of how the biophysical supply of forest ES is connected to policies paying attention to ES is given. The article also identifies innovations and the governance mechanisms for the provision of the ES.
