ESP connects over 3000 ecosystem services scientists, policy makers and practitioners who work together in more than 40 Working Groups and a growing number of National Networks on all continents. The Blue Challenge, a project on blue economy coordinated by ESP member and Costa Rica NN lead Marcello Hernández-Blanco in 16 countries in Latin America, in partnership with the Forever Costa Rica Association and the Center for Marine Research of the University of Costa Rica, organized a series of events with Robert Costanza in Costa Rica to talk about the ecological economics approach to development, especially in a country like Costa Rica which has shown significant achievements on sustainable development, but that also has important challenges.

Do you have a study on ecosystem service(s) valuation? Or did you participate in a project in which economic valuation was conducted? Then you can be part of our initiative and help us bring the information where it is needed!
The Ecosystem Services Valuation Database (ESVD) was initially developed as part of the The Economics of Ecosystems and Biodiversity (TEEB) initiative. It aimed to capture a broad global representation of the valuation evidence across all biomes and ecosystem services. The ESVD is now hosted by the Ecosystem Services Partnership and is one of the largest available database of valuation estimates.
Recognising the usefulness of information on ecosystem service values to decision making and the need for more comprehensive and up-to-date data, ESP is currently in the process of updating and upgrading the existing database. This will be a long-term, on-going process and we will keep collecting monetary estimates indefinitely. Proceedings from the ESP 10th World Conference are now available online.
The conference which took place 21-25 October in Hannover, Germany had a diverse program including more than 700 presentations in over 50 sessions. The majority of presentations are now available online in PDF format.

Several members of the Bulgarian NN presented at the ESP 10 conference in Hannover. Early career researchers, PhD students, professionals and scientists took part in the conference and had the opportunity to present oral and poster presentations of their work. On Tuesday October 22, assoc. prof. Stoyan Nedkov co-hosted the session T5 – Integrated ecosystem services models – advancing modeling science and application (R. Remme, F. Villa, et al.). The conference also favored the occasion to organize RC South-Eastern Europe meeting (Jeroen Arends, Stoyan Nedkov et al.) and deliver updates and discuss future activities within the regional chapter.
