GlobalDES has its origins in an Massive Online Open Course on ecosystem services taught by the staff of the University of Geneva in Switzerland. The learners (i.e., students) have been asked for the past three years onwards to contribute at least one entry to GlobalDES by describing a document published in their country that proposes concrete measures to safeguard ecosystem services. Back to back to the marine biome session on B1b: “Operationalizing ecosystem services in support of ecosystem-based marine spatial planning” lead by Ibon Galparsoro (AZTI)), Daniel Depellegrin (CNR-ISMAR) and Kemal Pinarbasi (AZTI) at the EU-ESP 2018 in San Sebastian we are happy to announce the dedicated special issue, which opens on 11 February 2019 on the Journal Ocean & Coastal Management.
The SI aims at addressing challenges in integrating Coastal and Marine Ecosystem Services assessment into MSP.
